A team of 33 dedicated volunteers recently returned from a highly impactful orthopedic medical mission trip to Honduras. The team, comprised of four skilled orthopedic surgeons, their clinical staff, and other support personnel, focused on providing life-changing surgical interventions. During their time in Honduras, the team successfully performed 36 total knee replacements and four shoulder surgeries, significantly improving the mobility and quality of life for many individuals. This important work was made possible through the generous donation of supplies from Piedmont Atlanta Hospital and crucial financial funding from Peachtree Orthopedics, demonstrating the power of community partnership in supporting global health initiatives. Additionally, without the generous donation of implants from Crosslink Orthopedics, this trip would not be possible. Financial burden is one of the greatest barriers to quality orthopedic care in Honduras, and because of the generosity of Crosslink Orthopedics, much of that burden is relieved.
The patients' resilience and gratitude were truly inspiring. Many individuals traveled over seven hours to receive care, highlighting the desperate need for specialized medical services in the region. The Honduran surgery center staff also played a vital role, providing invaluable assistance and creating a collaborative environment. The combined dedication of the volunteers, the support from Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, Peachtree Orthopedics, and Crosslink Orthopedics, and the cooperation of the local medical staff created a powerful and positive experience for everyone involved.
The mission trip was a resounding success, marked by hard work, strong fellowship, and the creation of lifelong memories and bonds. The team members not only provided critical medical care but also forged meaningful connections with the Honduran people. The experience was deeply rewarding for all involved, reinforcing the importance of medical missions and inspiring a commitment to continued service. In June 2025, a team of 37 volunteers traded their everyday routines for scrubs, sunscreen, and suitcases full of surgical supplies, heading south to Honduras for an orthopedic medical mission trip that turned out to be as unforgettable as it was impactful. The team — orthopedic surgeons, clinical staff, and a small army of general volunteers — rolled up their sleeves and completed 32 total knee replacements, giving patients back the simple freedom of walking without pain.
This work doesn't happen in a vacuum. The trip was made possible by the generous donation of supplies from Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, crucial financial funding from Peachtree Orthopedics, and implant donations from Crosslink Orthopedics — the kind of partnership that turns "we wish we could help" into "we did." Financial burden is one of the biggest barriers to orthopedic care in Honduras, and Crosslink's generosity went a long way toward closing that gap.
The patients' journeys to get there were stories in themselves. Some arrived by pickup truck, some by bus, and at least one made the trip by horse — proof that when people need care badly enough, distance and terrain don't stand a chance. Their gratitude was humbling, and it was matched every step of the way by the warmth of the Honduran surgery center staff, whose hospitality made the whole team feel instantly at home.
Between procedures, there was still time for a little adventure — a hike that doubled as a much-needed reset and a bonding experience the team won't forget anytime soon. Long days in the OR, laughter over dinner, and a shared sense of purpose turned a group of volunteers into a genuine team.
By the time it wrapped up, this mission trip had delivered exactly what it set out to: real medical impact, meaningful friendships, and a reminder of why this work matters. Everyone involved is already looking ahead to next year, ready to keep expanding access to orthopedic care and making a lasting difference in the lives of the people of Honduras.
